A Daily Mail Journalist Tried Our Necklace And It Genuinely Helped Her Cut Down Smoking

Daily Mail Journalist uses ChaLuMu necklace to cut down smoking

When Erica Crompton, a journalist for Mail Online, decided to see whether a £15 necklace could help her tackle a 40-a-day smoking habit and help her cut down smoking, she didn’t approach us for a collaboration or a quote. She simply tried it for herself.

That alone meant a lot to us.

Erica wrote honestly about how much smoking had begun to take from her, her health, her confidence and the way she felt about herself. After asthma attacks, dental problems and years of trying to quit without success, she decided to try something different and see whether our necklace could actually help in real life.

One of the first things she mentioned was why she chose it.

She didn’t pick something plain or clinical. She chose a leopard print 18-carat gold-plated necklace because it was bold, stylish and genuinely beautiful. It looked like jewellery you’d want to wear, not something that screamed “quitting” or felt awkward or medical. That mattered to her and it matters to us too.

And then it started to help.

Erica didn’t just try it once and forget about it. She wore it consistently, over weeks and found that it made a real difference. In a relatively short space of time, she managed to more than halve how many cigarettes she was smoking each day. The necklace became something she reached for instead of automatically reaching for nicotine, particularly later in the day when cravings had always been hardest.

What stood out most when we read her article was how clear she was about her experience. She had no regrets about trying the necklace. It didn’t end up in a drawer. It became part of her routine, something that supported her journey towards becoming smoke-free while still feeling like jewellery she actually enjoyed wearing.

She was honest that her journey wasn’t finished, but she was equally honest about how much the necklace helped her cut down and stay focused. She also shared improvements in how she felt physically, from her asthma to her skin, which for anyone who has smoked heavily, is a big deal.

For us, this is exactly why ChaLuMu exists.

We wanted to create jewellery that people genuinely want to wear, pieces that feel beautiful, discreet and empowering, not clinical or shame-inducing. Something that fits into real outfits and real lives, while also offering support in the moments that usually lead straight back to old habits.

We’re genuinely grateful that Erica chose to try our necklace on her own terms and to share her experience so openly. Stories like hers are the reason we keep going.

If you’re on your own journey away from smoking or vaping, you can explore our habit-changing jewellery and see whether it could support you too.
